This course aims to bring students from 0 knowledge to an intermediate level in the language Esperanto, an international auxiliary language with a simple, regular grammar and an affix-based vocabulary that’s easy to memorize and understand. Whether you’re a polyglot eager to add another language to your repertoire or a monolingual English speaker who worries learning a language is too hard, you can start learning Esperanto right now!
Take this course if you want to...
- Boost your language-learning skill by getting familiar with language-learning techniques, grammatical ideas, and words Esperanto shares with other languages.
- Connect with an international community which cares about bringing peace through mutual understanding.
- Have fun!
First-come, first-served. No application.
The department has disabled automatic enrollment, so if you plan to join the class, please email the instructor so you can be added to the bCourses. In your email, please include whether you need the unit. If you are unable to enroll for another reason (e.g., unit cap), please also email the instructor with more information, including whether you need the unit, and we’ll work something out. If either of these scenarios are the case, definitely come to the first class. I expect and will work to ensure students in such scenarios are able to participate fully in the course—the bureaucracy might just take some time.
The first lecture (22 January) will give you most of the foundation for the class. If you miss the first lecture, contact the instructor so we can cover the material for the lecture(s) you've missed!
