The Oral and Dental Health Decal is a student-run course taught by some of our Pre-Dental Society officers. It is a 2 unit, upper division, P/NP units (INTEGBI 198). There is a wide array of exciting topics that will be covered, and the course will also feature guest speakers. This decal is open to anyone, even those who are just interested in learning more about oral health (and not pre-dental). The class will be synchronous and asynchronous. This means that class will be held live on Tuesdays from 6:30 - 8:00 pm and there will be recordings for those that are unable or unsure about being present. The class will have small incorporated readings and weekly quizzes. The final exam will be in the form of a 10 minute group/individual presentation on a topic of interest.
The overall goal of the course is to bring awareness to the importance of proper oral hygiene and its relation to disease. Specifically, this dental health course will discuss oral hygiene, preventive measures, dental procedures and treatments, oral diseases, new dental technology through interactive activities, the introduction of 5-6 specialties within dentistry, and the process of applying to dental school.
