Every person’s relationship with their body has been uniquely shaped by external influences and their past experiences. In our society, body positivity is a radical practice. The aim of this decal is to practice body positivity by deepening our understanding of how we relate to our bodies, developing self-love, and learning to listen to our bodies’ needs. This is a discussion intensive course, so we will strive to create a safe space in which students feel comfortable to share their personal perspectives. The topics of discussion will be centered on how to eat and exercise intuitively, intersectional and feminist perspectives on bodies, and coping with our critical thoughts. We will watch films in class, use artistic expression as a method of healing, and participate in self-exploration activities. Journal entries will be assigned in order to deepen thinking and reflection. All readings and assignments will be given in class and via email. By the end of this semester, students will have a toolkit with which to practice self-love and mindfulness around eating, exercise, and care.
Our first class will be on February 4th!
