We’re glad you’re here!
Data science is no longer an esoteric pastime of mysterious statisticians. Everywhere you look data-driven decisions are being made about your day, starting from your news feed in the morning, to Instagram stories during lunch break, to coffee shops for banana bread and to the best transit routes back home.
You can’t escape it.
That’s why we created this DeCal to introduce everyone to the fascinating world of data analytics and insight and how it’s transforming our lives one data point at a time. Whether you’re an experienced coder looking to grow your domain expertise or a complete novice technologist trying to learn the ropes, come along with us on this journey - we won’t disappoint.
We aim to expose you to essential data science concepts that will not only make you more employable but will also be very relevant to your field in this data-rich age. There will be a strong focus on building a statistical intuition without delving into the arcane details of the machine learning models themselves in a way actively geared towards people of ALL backgrounds.
Grade calculation is done with the following breakup:
● Attendance: 20%
● Labs: 20%
● Projects: 40%
● Reading Quizzes: 20%
There are absolutely no hard pre-requisites and we will be hosting an optional Python boot camp before the first week of class to get you up to speed. People of all majors, backgrounds, and interests are actively encouraged to apply!
If you already have a prior background in data science and want to gain teaching experience apply to be a TA for this course: https://tinyurl.com/dssfall19decalta.
