Never lose to your friends in the popular Settlers of Catan board game ever again! This class is designed for students who have already played a few games and understand the rules. Each week we will discuss how to get better in different aspects of the game, from settlement placement to expansion to trading to development cards to robber placement!
The class will also connect aspects of the game to the real world. For example, we will explore how targeted trading in Catan is analogous to the targeted advertising strategies that companies like Amazon partake in.
Students must achieve a minimum of 71% to pass the course.
25% Participation/Attendance (one excused absence is allowed)
30% Homework
20% Quizzes
25% Final
The first 15 minutes of class will be dedicated to covering a specific Catan topic each week. This will take place in an interactive lecture format. Students will be free to interrupt and ask questions.
There will then be a 5 minute class discussion to consider alternative strategies. In Catan, there is no one right / perfect move. It is a subjective game, so it is important that we discuss different viewpoints and thoughts.
The remaining 60 minutes will be used for the students to play a Catan game against their peers. Note that this class will teach you to play fast. The average Catan game should not take more than 45 minutes to complete!
No day(s) left until application deadline!
