Hello! 100 Strong is a Berkeley organization that aims to empower young women to excel in their personal goals and to develop their leadership skills. Each fall semester, 100 Strong recruits female UC Berkeley students to become mentors, and pairs them one-on-one or one-on-two with an 8th grade girl from Montera Middle School. The mentors attend a weekly DeCal class in the Fall, and participate in one mentoring session per week at the middle school. Transportation will be provided. Mentors of past years have found the Decal a lively and thought-provoking discussion space and the mentorship highly rewarding!
Please note: we ask that the mentorship program is a yearlong committment—and enrollment in the Spring Decal is contingent on having already completed the Fall DeCal and mentoring sessions.
During the Spring semester, the DeCal will meet once every two weeks. Students will complete weekly assigned readings, as well as continue to attend weekly mentoring sessions.
Students are required to submit weekly online reflections on their mentoring experiences and assigned readings, give two small presentations, and will be required to submit a 4-6 page final paper at the end of the semester.
