“Introduction to Investment Banking” is a 2 unit course that will cover valuation, financial models, and financial instruments. Topics covered will be valuation methodologies including comparable companies analysis and discounted cash flow. In addition, students will get an overview of financial modeling using spreadsheets. The last part of the course will cover the different financial instruments used by companies and how capital structures work.
This course offers students of all majors and backgrounds an introduction to the concepts of investment banking and the types of analysis performed by investment banking professionals. It aims to improve the preparation of students for positions in investment banking and increase the placement of Berkeley students in this highly competitive job market.
Students will be evaluated based on homework assignments and quiz scores throughout the course, as well as a final exam and presentation at the end.
