The UC Berkeley Steel Bridge competition team competes every year in the AISC/ASCE National Student Steel Bridge Competition, which is an international student competition where teams design and build scaled bridges generally about 20ft long.
We will teach you how to use industry standard design software such as AutoCAD, SAP2000 and Solidworks as we design our bridge in the fall semester. We will also train you to use standard machinery in the welding and machine shops to prepare for fabrication in the spring. Join us again in the spring to help with fabricating the bridge and competing at both our regional and national competitions.
The DeCal is 2 units and requires about 6 hours of work per week. Meetings are required unless there is a class conflict, but they also count towards these 6 hours. Student leaders provide work sessions several times per week when students can go in to get trained and practice their skills to fulfill the remaining hours and participate in the team's work.
Meetings are Wednesdays 5-6pm and Thursdays 6:30-7:30pm in 406 Davis Hall.
