Always wondered how to backpack but never knew how to start? The Cal Hiking and Outdoor Society's Intro to Backpacking DeCal is for you! This is a one-unit course that teaches you the basics of backpacking.
Weekly assignments will give you confidence with all of the aspects of planning a backpacking trip: choosing a location, getting permits, planning food, choosing gear, understanding safety; and of course, knowing Leave No Trace Principles.
By the end of the semester, you will have created a plan for your first backpacking trip, which you will be required to go on and present about for your final project! One day hike report is also required to pass this class.
This is a great class taught by experienced backpackers who are eager to pass on their knowledge and skills. If you've ever been interested in learning how to backpack, this is the DeCal for you!
THIS IS A BEGINNERS CLASS. IT IS INTENDED FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO PREVIOUS BACKPACKING KNOWLEDGE. PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP IF YOU KNOW HOW TO BACKPACK!
No day(s) left until application deadline!
