Our course will examine bioethical principles in the Jewish legal tradition, as well as their relation to the ethics of modern scientific practice. Physicians of various fields will introduce the fundamental principles of the course through weekly lectures. Students are encouraged to ask questions and discuss various perspectives on each topic!
Topics will include mental health, euthanasia, abortion, and much more!
Grades will be categorized in the following manner:
participation, attendance, and assignments.
There will be a short writing assignment after each class, and a final reflection paper.
(NO EXAMS OR QUIZZES!)
By the end of the course, students should have a basic understanding of medical ethics and how Judaism; moreover, religion can impact decisions made in the field of medicine. Students will learn how decisions made in a medical setting are not always clear, challenging prospective/physicians and students to think what they would do when faced with the issues discussed throughout the course.
This class is open to ALL students but especially helpful to students interested in pre-medical studies because this is a great way to network with many physicians from various specialties.
We are excited to have you!
