This course is designed to introduce you to a more critical, scientific approach when analyzing skincare. Throughout the 12 weeks, you’ll be introduced to three modules: Skin Anatomy, Dermatology, and Formulation Chemistry/Building a Routine; and every week we’ll focus on a new topic within these modules. These topics will be surveyed in depth through our weekly two-hour meetings and weekly individual reading reflections.
At the beginning of the course, students will have the opportunity to submit specific relevant topics they would like to be covered. The most popular topic will be covered in one of the final weeks of our course.
The weekly readings are listed in the course schedule in the syllabus. Reflections will be due on bCourses on Mondays at 5pm (a week after it is assigned).
The midterm assignment will be due on Sunday, March 6 at 11:59pm (submit through bCourses) and presentations will take place at the following class meeting on Monday, March 7. You will work in groups to research and present a dermatology topic of your choice that we will not cover in class such as a skin condition/disease or a dermatological procedure. More details to follow.
The final assignment will be due on Sunday, April 17 at 11:59pm (submit through bCourses). You will create a skincare routine using knowledge about ingredients and skincare products that you learned over the semester. Students will present their final assignment to the rest of the class. More details to follow.
