Spending too much time on your devices? INFO 98 will help you reset your relationship with technology and build constructive digital habits. During the Spring 2022 semester, students reduced time on social media and entertainment apps by over 3 hours per day.
The internet has given us a powerful set of tools. If used properly, our devices can accelerate learning, improve cognition, and enable happier healthier lives.
Still, for many of us, our devices are a hindrance -- both inside and outside of school:
- Social media and entertainment services are draining more of our time than ever
- Our attention spans and memories are declining
- Face-to-face interactions are being replaced with likes and comments
Mass adoption of smartphones and social media has happened so quickly that the education system has been unable to keep up -- leaving our generation with no warnings or best practices for our online lives. INFO 98 - Becoming Tech Intentional seeks to change that by providing Berkeley students with a practical framework for reshaping their relationship with their devices.
During INFO 98, students will:
- Analyze their device usage and how it scales over time
- Redesign their digital environments to promote intentional use
- Learn about the underlying business model of the attention economy and the implications it has on our well-being on individual and societal levels
- Implement systems for task & time management to be more efficient inside and outside of school
- Learn to leverage the tools at their fingertips to take and organize notes more efficiently
- Explore how technology can be used to build habits, improve health, strengthen relationships, and cultivate new skills
No day(s) left until application deadline!
