This course is designed to help Berkeley students gain a background in common health problems in our world today. Whether you are a prospective health care provider, public health advocate, or just interested in current diseases, this class is designed to provide a broad overview of many diseases of the body, as well as recognize and differentiate diseases, and develop community-based prevention strategies. The material will be tailored to inform students on the disease burden that tropical nations, especially those of Central America.
Class will include a short weekly quiz, a lecture and discussion on the weekly reading, discussion of case studies, and practice of physical examination. Short readings and homework will be assigned. There will be one midterm and a final.
The entire course will be graded on a P/NP basis.
Attendance is mandatory, with one allowed excused absence. The class will be held every Monday, excepting holidays, starting 9/13/2021. See you then!
