Music & Medicine is a course that has the intention to unite individuals who find interest in biological sciences and/or music. The course will explore the various ways that music has been implemented in medicinal purposes, with a valuable look into the underlying science. The course is set up to be engaging for all students, with an emphasis in participation and discussion amongst students and facilitators.
Attendance for this class is mandatory, however, we are more than understanding of the time that we are in. If individuals are unable to make it to class, we ask that they contact us and briefly explain the reason behind their excused absence. More than two unexcused absences will result in a NO PASS for the course. Exceptions may be made for students with time zone conflicts.
At the end of each class, there will be a short survey for students to complete to ask about what they took away from the course. The class itself is broken into three sections, and at the end of each section there will be a short write-up inquiring about what the students found interesting, enjoyed, etc. Each week there will be weekly readings that students will use for in-class discussions.
There are no exams for this course. Instead, there is a final project presentation in which students will be given the opportunity to further their knowledge on a concept that was covered in the course. There is a lot of freedom and flexibility with this project because we want to ensure that students are passionate about what they present.
We are excited to bring Music & Medicine to students and look forward to seeing everyone in Fall 2021.
