This 1-unit class is meant to serve as an introduction to studying 20th-century queer history through the examination of queer social/political movements. Our goal is for students to learn to think critically about past events in queer history and relate them to current issues of politics and identity, as well as to gain basic knowledge of history.
We meet for an hour each week (7-8 PM on Mondays) and each week will have an historical theme/era to be the focus of lecture.
There are short readings most weeks (all available on bCourses), and there are 2-3 weeks between writing assignments (see last paragraph). Instead of requiring students to come to the Zoom lecture each week, we are opting to have a brief reflection (~150 words) due the week after each lecture.
Points: "Attendance" is required each week (students can miss 1 week without any repercussions), and there are 2 short essays (1 page) + 1 long essay (2 pages) + a final quiz.
