This course enables Berkeley students to learn about teaching science to young learners from high need areas of the Bay Area. It covers achievement gaps in education correlated with racial and socioeconomic backgrounds, especially in STEM fields. This class will contain a series of lectures and assignments to stimulate a dialogue about how we can work towards equitable achievement in education. Most of the course grade centers around active engagement and one's contribution to the educational experience of the young learners with whom we are engaging. However, there will also be a midterm paper and a final project.
