This course will allow students to gain a greater understanding of the Holocaust through studying the history of antisemitism, Hitler’s rise to power, ghettos and concentration camps, resistance, and the repercussions of the Holocaust. It is important that one must not only analyze the Holocaust during the years it took place; but, to gain a deeper comprehension, one must look at the roots of antisemitism as well as the aftermath of the Holocaust. Throughout this Decal, we will study this history through primary and secondary sources including diaries, testimonies, and more. Importance will be placed on interpreting the signs of a genocide in order to learn and be aware of prevention and intervention.
The course consists of weekly 90 minute sessions. One film and assigned readings will be an additional weekly requirement.
