This course is designed to help Berkeley students gain a background in common health problems in our world today. Whether you are a prospective health care provider, public health advocate, or interested in current diseases, this class is designed to provide a broad overview to many different diseases of the body, as well as training to be able to conduct physical examinations, recognize and differentiate diseases, and develop community-based prevention strategies. The material will be tailored to inform students on the disease burden that tropical nations such as Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica are facing.
Quizzes and a short writing homework assignments will be assigned each week, corresponding to the weekly modules and lectures posted onto the bCourse of the class. A midterm exam and a final exam will be conducted. Given the circumstances of the semester and the online course format, attendance will not be mandatory and will not be taken into account in grading. Exams, homework, and quizzes will all contribute to a student's grade.
