Course Overview:
Despite the rise of technology’s influence in our lives, rise of the technology industry as a whole, and rise of conversations regarding diversity in STEM, the female-identifying and other minority populations remain largely under-represented in the field of computer science. This class aims to address this issue, by bringing together underrepresented students and allies early in their college careers to examine the field of technology honestly and critically.
Together, we will learn about current issues in technology, both within itself (e.g. current DEI practices, dealing with discrimination), and by its effects on society at large (e.g. biased artificial intelligence). The course also aims to support students in their individual careers, by providing professional development resources, introducing different routes related to computer science, and by serving as a support system for personal growth.
