This class will be a survey of important areas of personal growth: emotional intelligence, effective communication, cultural differences, mental health, and so much more! But via the lens of an international student! As fellow international students, our course facilitators understand the challenges that international students are facing under this unprecedented time. Thus, we would like to help all international students overcome their struggles on foreign land and grow as a person but not just a student.
Class Structure and Learning Outcome:
Through weekly talks from experienced guest speakers who are international student alumni or have experience interacting with international students, students will learn about achieving all kinds of wellbeing — academic, interpersonal, emotional, and physical. There will also be weekly readings and videos followed by short reflections for students to have a better understanding of certain areas of growth. The ultimate hope is that students will not only learn about personal growth but also be able to apply what they’ve learned and personally grow in any and all capacities. And they will be able to use these to combat various challenges in life.
The lecture time is scheduled to better accommodate every student from different time zones. The lecture is asynchronous, meaning that real-time attendance is not mandatory. But watching the lecture videos are required to receive attendance credits. With that being said, attendance for online lectures is strongly encouraged as personal growth often requires some extent of interactions! And class participation (discussions, etc.) DOES add to the total scores.
Final Project 30%
The passing requirement for the class is 60% and the final project is mandatory but a lot of fun!
No day(s) left until application deadline!
