Curious about public policy but don't know where to start? Already love public policy and want to improve your writing? Want to earn 2 units towards the public policy minor?
Policy Review at Berkeley is a student-led, peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary journal that is designed for students of all academic disciplines to reflect on and write about the policy implications of their fields of interest. The mission of the journal is to make policy easily accessible, understandable, and applicable for undergraduates from varying academic disciplines and personal backgrounds. The Policy Review at Berkeley DeCal course is designed to help students build interviewing, academic writing, policy-making and policy analysis skills through extensive writing, fieldwork, and simulations. Throughout the semester, students will work on two main writing pieces — a policy memo and an op-ed — on the topic of their choice with the support of our editors and hear from a variety of guest speakers involved in public policy. At the end of the semester, the writing pieces of each student will be considered for official publication in our journal.
Due to COVID-19, our course will be completely remote through Zoom. Live attendance will be flexible but there will be periodic discussion assignments to make sure students are on track.
