This DeCal is open to musicians of any level (though it is expected that participants are at least *able* to read sheet music). Throughout the course, students will engage collaboratively to rehearse a piece (or series of pieces) and focus on principles of good ensemble and individual playing, all in preparation for a final performance. We welcome any instrument to apply!
Students are expected to attend weekly 90-minute rehearsals with the other members of their group, as well as practice individually between group rehearsals. Performance in a public recital (held at the end of the semester) is required, as is attendance of the masterclass (conducted by the faculty sponsor, Dr. Leighton Fong).
Final “grades” are determined using the following scheme: 10% Weekly Participation (attending and participating in rehearsals), 30% Midterm Evaluation (attending the masterclass), and 60% Final Concert (performing in the final recital).
This DeCal is offered for 1 credit, though there is an option to take the course for 0 credits (auditing). This class does not count toward any Music Minor requirements.
We welcome any questions you may have!
No day(s) left until application deadline!
