This 2-unit DeCal is a space for environmentally minded students of color to build and empower community, and develop professional skills and connections within environmental fields. Undergrads are paired with professionals in the environmental field who align with your potential career goals, interests and/or cultural backgrounds to create a meaningful pathway towards fighting environmental destruction and advancing environmental justice together.
Students meet roughly twice a month with their mentor and are given reflection assignments based on mentor meetings and assigned readings. A final presentation will be due about the student's experience in the program. Class will be heavily discussion-based, covering assigned readings about Environmental Justice, personal development, and timely cultural topics in order to help students set their own motivations and goals for themselves and within the Environmental field. Students will also be required to attend a few events outside class with the mentors, including a Matching Event within the second week of classes, a mid-semester Mixer, and a Closing Event during the last week of classes.
