As global citizens, do we have a moral obligation to ensure peace? What does this mean in the context of today’s political and social environment? How are we able to exhibit compassion and empathy in our interpersonal relations as we begin to share contrasting ideologies and opinions?
The main focus of the class is to identify the role of empathy during times of hostility. Due to the political atmosphere of our time, it is important that we learn to cultivate the qualities of respect and empathy. The objective of this course is to recognize the effects of hostility on various spheres of life and analyze how exemplifying empathy can better equip one to forge successful relationships.
There are no required texts and class will be mostly comprised of discussion and debate.
While it is required that you attend class and participate in discussion, more than two unexcused absences will result in a No Pass Grade. Excused absences require prior notice and possible documentation.
Homework is very light and primarily only consists of a reflection. Your participation in class is essentially most of the work.
