This salsa class explores the cultural, historical, and social underpinnings of salsa dancing through various sources: lectures, readings, dance, and events. The course aims to help students be competent at dancing salsa and learn about its place in society. Students will not be graded on dance ability.
There are two short reflection papers. These are not focused on dance theory, but are reflections of what students learn about the culture, history, and practice of salsa.
The final is a dance performance. Beginners will have the option to perform live or submit a video. Intermediates will perform live in front of class.
