Sufism is a 1,400-year-old discipline. It is a way, a discipline, a method that teaches the individual to explore and discover the reality of their true self. Simply put, Sufism is the path to self-knowledge.
Tamarkoz is a Sufi practice. To define it simply, Tamarkoz is Sufi meditation. If Sufism is the path to self-knowledge, then Tamarkoz is the vehicle by which one can progress towards discovering our true and stable self.
Tamarkoz, to define it more precisely, is the art and science of self-knowledge through heart concentration and meditation. Tamarkoz involves several elements: mind relaxation exercises, deep breathing exercises, Movazeneh (slow movement meditation), deep body relaxation, visualization and heart concentration. Tamarkoz is a heart-based or heart-focused meditation practice. What makes Tamarkoz unique, and separates it from other meditative practices, is its emphasis on the source of life in the heart, which is the strongest source of electromagnetic energy in the body, the link between our physical and eternal realms, and the gateway to the knowledge and reality within.
This DeCal has been offered for more than 8 years, with nearly 1500 students having taken the class to date. Tamarkoz is a powerful stress-management technique. It is a holistic, practical and sustainable means to help recover and maintain balance, wholeness, wellness, contentment and discipline in all aspects of life.
Although the teachings of this class are rooted in the 1,400-year-old practice of Islamic Sufism, anyone can practice and benefit from Tamarkoz since Sufism knows no cultural, religious or racial boundaries and has no physical prerequisites.
This class is organized by the M.T.O. Sufi Association, a registered student organization at Cal. Check our our website for more information: http://sufiassociation.org/
