Founded in 1995 at the University of California, Berkeley, the People's Test Preparation Service (PTPS) is a non-profit, student-run organization dedicated to providing free standardized test taking skills to low-income communities. PTPS also satisfies the field work requirement for those pursing an Education minor.
The DeCal meets for 2 hours a week, where we provide teachers with training, curriculum, and support, so even brand new teachers are fully equipped to lead their own classrooms. Teachers will then run their own 2-hour weekly classes of high schoolers, teaching either the math or verbal portion of the SAT. We assign teachers to sites and class times based on their schedule and availability. Classes are located either on the UC Berkeley campus or at local high schools, and we reimburse all Lyft/Uber travel expenses.
Course Requirements:
-Attend 80% of weekly DeCal meetings
-Teach all of your weekly classes (a substitute teacher can be arranged if you need to miss a class)
-Complete 2 supplemental hours of service (running a workshop or being a sub for another teacher)
-Complete, along with the other teachers in your site group, a brief powerpoint presentation detailing your experience at the site you taught
No day(s) left until application deadline!
