Application of Strategy in Finance applies strategy concepts in financial modeling and valuations. It strives to understand a business’ worth by delving deep into industry and situation specific strategies. An M&A transaction would not be modeled the same way we’d model a startup. This course explores these differences and uses strategy, structure, and creativity to value firms more accurately. The ultimate goal is to think out of the box and move away from standard financial decision-making. This course stresses just as much on classroom discussions as on assigned readings. These discussions set stage for curiosity, questions and disagreements regarding the reading material and in-class presentations.
Analysts are exposed to multiple types of firms and scenarios, each with its unique attributes. Knowledge of strategic tools and concepts not only helps value firms appropriately but also helps increase firm valuations by reformulating strategies. Whether you know exactly where you want to end up(finance/strategy consulting) or have no idea whatsoever, this course will be a great starting point.
