A comprehensive introduction to the biopsychosocial approach to substance use, exploring neuropsychiatric and neurobiological research, psychedelic research, science communication, and science advocacy. Students should come away with an understanding of how substance abuse is a multifaceted issue that needs multi-pronged solutions. Students will also learn science communication skills like writing and analyzing research papers, drafting public policy proposals, and creating advocacy cases. Instruction will happen through lectures, class discussions, a variety of guest lectures from researchers and activists in the field, and assignments.
