Korean drumming? huh? What is that? Well, if you want to find out more about what Korean drumming is, here is your chance to learn and find out!
This course is part two of the introductory course on the origins and practice of Korean drumming, P'ungmul. Student will be learning how to play the outdoor-based form of p'ungmul. And they will not only learn how to play these Korean drums but also understand the social, political, and religious ideologies that shaped the p'ungmul's unique style of music, song, and dance through weekly readings. At the end of the semester, students will be performing the P'angut piece at the annual spring showcase.
Prerequisites:
No experience is required. Anyone interested in the Korean traditional musical culture is welcome to sign up. However, space will be limited due the availability of the instruments. Further details will be explained on the first day of instruction.
