***THIS COURSE IS NO LONGER BEING OFFERED SPRING 2017***
Sorry for the confusion, but this course will no longer be offered for the Spring 2017 semester, please check back in Fall 2017 to take this course!
Gloving is a form of dance involving various hand motions in conjunction with LED microlights to produce a musical perfomance with a variety of colors, patterns, and effects.
“Ambience: An Intro to Glove Lightshows” is a comprehensive course that will teach students the basic techniques and ideas required to perform their own lightshows, as well as design and program their own LED lights and microchips. This class assumes no prior knowledge of the subject matter. LED microchips vary in their complexity and programing methods, students will have to purchase their own microlights and learn how the onboard programming functions on the chips. The course will be divided, roughly, into about 70% performance focused and 30% technology focused.
The Decal is performance and interaction based, and students will be graded on attendance and completion of two performances (midterm and final).
DeCal students are encouraged to participate in the Ambience club which meets every Thursday from 8-10pm. This club is focused on building a community centered around the art of gloving as well as other light arts, and provides a space to practice, learn, share, and make friends.
